US Embassy in Jordan: Suspension of Routine American Citizen Services and New Embassy Health Guidance

Ammon News - The US embassy in Jordan on Saturday announced that due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in Jordan, the U.S. Embassy’s Consular Section will suspend routine American Citizen Services (ACS) as of November 20. 

The embassy added that it will continue to provide emergency ACS services for urgent travel or for U.S. citizens in need of emergency assistance.   

Routine services that include issuing or renewing full-validity U.S. passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA), and notarial services, will be suspended until further notice. The US embassy also added.

It is stated that for those with immediate, emergency travel needs, the Consular Section will provide a one-year emergency passport.

The US embassy listed the following contact email for US passport appointment for immediate travel:  Amman-ACS@state.gov.  The email shall include the following information, which is the reasons for your planned travel and a copy of a purchased airline ticket.    

Moreover, the US embassy also stated that all non-immigrant and immigrant visa services will be suspended.  The following contact email is listed for an emergency visa need: Support-Jordan@ustraveldocs.com

The US embassy indicated that citizens may pick up passports at the US Embassy starting from November 22, Sunday through Thursday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. 

The embassy added that the Passport pass-back will now occur at the Consular entry gate and will not require U.S. citizens to physically enter the Embassy.  The embassy emphasised on wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing when arriving to pick up the passport.     

The US embassy also said that if anyone wishes to speak with someone in American Citizen Services (ACS), he/ she may reach them at +962 6 590 6950.  Phone hours for routine inquiries are 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.   If anyone has an emergency during other business hours, please call the Embassy at +962 6 590 6000.  After business hours, please call +962 6 590 6500. 

Additionally, the US embassy announced that due to the COVID situation in Jordan and the risks involved in certain public activities, the U.S. Embassy is prohibiting U.S. Government employees from in-person dining at restaurants or cafes, in-person shopping, and visits to hotels or other recreational locations.  The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens carefully consider the risks involved with any activities in public areas where groups of people gather.  

The U.S. Embassy continues to closely monitor developments in the COVID situation in Jordan and any further changes in consular services will be updated on our website.  It added.  

The embassy also declared that U.S. citizens are encouraged to follow local news media for all updates regarding the evolving situation in Jordan.  Daily English-language updates on the current COVID situation in Jordan can be found at https://corona.moh.gov.jo/en.   

The embassy also added that citizens shall consult the CDC website for the most up-to-date information about COVID-19 and visit the Embassy webpage on COVID-19: https://jo.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/ for more information about travel restrictions and closures in Jordan.
   
The embassy also stressed that citizens shall monitor local media for updates and adhere to Government of Jordan restrictions and instructions.
