Jordan records 68 fatalities, 2,373 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday

The Ministry of Health announced 68 fatalities and 2,373 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 1772, and the caseload to 143,678.

A total of 1245 cases were recorded in in the capital Amman governorate, 269 in Irbid, including 27 in the northern border district of Ramtha, 168 in Zarqa, 139 in Madaba, 118 in Ajloun, 115 in Jerash, 95 in Tafila, 54 in Balqa, 49 in Ma'an, including 1 infection case in southern district of Petra, 48 in Karak, 47 in Aqaba, and 26 in Mafraq, according to the media statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The number of hospitalizations on Sunday to receive medical treatment in accredited hospitals reached 243, while 188 patients have left hospitals after recovery, said the joint statement.

The total number of patients who are currently receiving treatment in hospitals has reached 2116, of whom 447 are on intensive care beds, added the government .

Meanwhile, 9583 additional lab Covid-19 tests were conducted, bringing the cumulative number administered since the start of the pandemic to 218,4026, the statement pointed out.

The percentage of positive tests on Sunday has reached approximately 24.8%, the statement noted.

The Ministry of Health said the in the number of Covid-19 tests was caused by the suspension of fixed testing stations' operations during the 4-day comprehensive curfew period, indicating that the tests will return to their usual levels starting today.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the "Aman" (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as "Sahtak" (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
