4,469 new virus cases, 71 fatalities recorded Friday

A total of 4,469 new coronavirus infections and 71 deaths were recorded across the Kingdom on Friday, bringing the caseload to 136,555 since the outbreak of the pandemic in early March, according to a daily by the Ministry of Health.

The total number of fatalities from the highly infectious respiratory disease has reached 1,618. The ministry added that 2008 COVID-19 patients remained in hospitals, including 434 in intensive care.

It indicated that a total of 331 cases were admitted to hospitals today, while 165 were discharged after they fully recovered.

Breaking down today's infections, the ministry said about half of the new cases were recorded in Amman with 2,084 infections, followed by Irbid 1,109, Jerash 494, Mafraq 224, Zarqa 142, Karak 121, Balqaa 100, Madaba 84, Ajloun 59, Tafila 42, Aqaba 7, and Maan 3.

With regard to testing, the ministry indicated that 16,771 tests were conducted today, 26.6 percent of which were positive. The total number of tests conducted since March stood at 2,157,941 .
