Public Security Department (PSD) Director General Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh Monday ordered commanders and officers in the field to oversee the deployment of security forces to all regions and governorates of the Kingdom on election day eve.
Speaking a day before Jordanians go to the polls to choose their representatives to the 19th Jordanian parliament, the public security chief directed officers to stay neutral and firm in enforcing the law throughout the electoral process.
All measures will be taken to provide a safe environment for the citizens across the Kingdom to vote, he said, noting that security forces have taken over in all regions within their areas of jurisdiction to secure the polls.
Hawatmeh urged officers to adopt "the highest standards" in implementing the security plans, and take all COVID-19 preventive and precautionary measures to protect public health and enable voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote easily and smoothly in an atmosphere of integrity, and in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, the Independent Election Commission and the relevant authorities.
"We will endeavour to impose the rule of law without prejudice or bias in order to safeguard the citizens' rights, security and health, and will not tolerate that anyone breaks the laws or violates the defense orders," he said, appealing to the public for cooperation and adherence to the health regulations.
Hawatmeh said that the PSD has put in place all administrative and logistical capabilities for the security forces on duty to provide a security umbrella for all personnel of the electoral process, including candidates, voters, committees and observers.
He said that security forces are on alert to promptly respond to any developments or security needs.
