Obeidat : Government's actions aim to reduce Covid-19 cases

09-11-2020 12:28 AM

Ammon News -

Health Minister, Nazir Obeidat, said that the government's primary goal of the implemented actions is "to reduce the number of coronavirus infections as much as possible and to control the pandemic that comes with the cooperation and commitment of citizens."

"The government is following the epidemiological situation through a number of indicators, such as the increase in weekly cases and the rate of positive-tested cases out of the number of Covid-19 tests, which amounted to 19 percent today, in addition to the number of deaths and the rate of infections that require hospitalization," Obeidat said Sunday in a press conference in the Prime Ministry.

He indicated that the transfer of Covid-19 patients through government hospitals to the private rented hospital will begin at the end of the week, noting that the private sector will provide the medical sector with about 1050 beds and 180 intensive care beds.

On the new field hospitals, the Health Minister said that the field hospitals in Irbid, Amman and Ma'an will be able to receive patients within 35 days.

In response to a question about the external ventilator "ECMO", Obeidat confirmed that the device doesn't treat coronavirus, but rather treats its complications related to lack of oxygen by transferring blood to outside the lung to raise the level of oxygen in the blood, which is similar to the work of a dialysis machine.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Health has two devices, and there are devices in the Royal Medical Services (RMS), and a number of devices in university hospitals, and medical personnel in Jordan are able to operate these devices.

He added that the government had signed a contract with a private company specialized in building field hospitals, under the supervision of the Audit Bureau and the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission.

Obeidat confirmed that the reason for the delay of the samples is due to a technical failure that caused a delay in the delivery of the test results two days ago, and work has been done to fix it and there will be no delay in the coming period.

The Health Minister said that controlling the Covid-19 pandemic is measured by the ability of hospitals to absorb cases that need treatment and the adequacy of intensive care beds and ventilators.

He called on citizens to adhere to health and preventive conditions by wearing face masks, following the utmost caution, and using various preventive measures, especially during the course of the electoral process.
