Northern Military Zone officers, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department, Friday evening foiled an attempt to smuggle in drugs from Syria into the Kingdom, and seized quantities of narcotics.
A source at the General Command Headquarters of the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army, said that the army unit applied the rules of engagement, which led the smugglers to retreat deep into Syrian territory.
A search of the area led to the seizure of 409 bags of hashish and 36,335 narcotic pills, which were referred to the competent authorities, according to the source.
It also said that an army unit patrolling the border captured a man who tried to infiltrate the border from Jordan to Syria, and was referred to security authorities.
The army command reiterated that it will deal firmly and with full force with any smuggling attempt or breaching the border to protect the Kingdom and its citizens.
