Ammon News - The media spokesperson of the Customs Department, Imad Nseer, said the customs agents working at Aqaba port have successfully seized a container supposedly laden with LED lighting panels, unmatching the declared shipment papers.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, he said the container cargo was suspected and transferred to undergo an X-ray test, then vape kits and accessories were seized, which were technically hidden inside the lighting units.
The smuggled vape goods included 33 thousand vape coils-kits- and more than 60 thousands vape heads, in addition to 1 thousand e-adapters, and 60 packs of foreign-made cigarettes.
.
The smuggled kits and devices were seized, and the case was referred to the Customs Attorney General to take the legal action accordingly, he noted.
The entry of these vaping parts need official approvals from the Food and Drug Administration and the Institution for Standards and Metrology due to the harm posed to the citizens' health and safety, according to Nseer.
To curb smuggling, he vowed the customs perrosnnel will work to fight whoever tampers with the country's economic and social security.
The department is working to strengthen the customs control procedures at border crossings that aim to develop customs efficiency and develop the security measures, he noted.
The customs' development will be made by using modern and advanced technology through the use of x-ray testing devices capable of detecting materials of all kinds and forms that pose a threat to the country and the citizen, he pointed out.
