Youth's active participation in the parliamentary elections key to change

 Ammonnews - Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Musa Ma'aytah, said the "biggest" role in the participation and change process falls on young people, as they represent the largest segment of society.


Speaking during his meeting on Wednesday, with a youth delegation within the National Youth Forum, dubbed "Sons of the Kingdom," he added that young people can influence their peers to participate "actively" in the parliamentary elections.


In an open dialogue held within the the forum's activities, entitled: "Elections and Youth: Abstention and Elections," the ministry's Secretary General, Ali Khawaldeh, told the youth delegation that the Independent Election Commission (IEC) supervises and manages the electoral process, and is responsible for altering the polling date.


Meanwhile, he said the government's role is to provide technical and logistical support and a climate to maintain the integrity and transparency of the elections.


To ensure higher turnout, he highlighted the importance of the youth's role in participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections, as the next Lower House will endorse bills that improve their living conditions and address youth-related challenges.
For their part, the youth appreciated the ministry's efforts to raise political awareness among the various segments of society.
"Sons of the Kingdom" program aims to orchestrate efforts of young people of all ages and spectra in discussing domestic, Arab and regional issues, to enhance Jordan's role in this regard.
