Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Health, Dr. Nazir Obeidat, announced the establishment of the National Center for the Control of Epidemics and Communicable Diseases, which will undertake preventive, treatment and research tasks for viruses and infectious diseases that may threaten the citizens' lives and raise the health sector's level.
Speaking during a press conference held at the Prime Ministry on Wednesday, Obeidat said a committee was chosen for the newly announced center, consisting of the Minister of State for Legal Affairs, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Minister of Health, in addition to Dr. Azmi Mahafaza, Dr. Firas Hawari, and Dr. Wael Hayajneh.
The center's committee will be ready to assume responsibilities within weeks given the need to have a special bylaw in force and build related laboratories and ensure supplies, according to Obeidat.
As for the numbers of Covid-19 infections, Obeidat said the recorded numbers are "unscary" despite the noticeable increases in the infections.
Without partnering with the citizen, the results will not be as desired in terms of dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, he said.
Obeidat denied accusations circulated of falsifying the numbers of Covid-19 deaths in Jordan and paying money to the deceased families in exchange for listing the fatalities under the coronavirus deaths.
The moral aspect is important in the health sector, and Jordan sets an example in this regard, and has "a good and strong" health system, according to Obeidat.
Most of the Covid-19 deaths suffer from chronic diseases and comorbidities, and their percentage did not exceed 1% of the total caseload, he noted.
Resorting to the comprehensive curfew for two weeks will reduce the number of virus infections, but as the lockdown ends, the hike will return because the disease is present in the world, he noted.
The minister said the percentage of positive cases reaches 7%, and about 50% of the infected people are asymptomatic, he said, stressing that the issue of delay in announcing results of the Covid-19 tests will be overcome within two days.
The epidemiological investigation teams are following up on the health conditions of patients and infected people spending a home isolation period, the minister pointed out.
