Safadi, Lazzarini discuss mobilizing support to UNRWA

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, and UNRWA's Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, said they would continue working together to mobilize the required political and financial support to enable the UN Agency to keep providing its vital services to Palestinian refugees in accordance with its UN mandate.

In a meeting held at the Foreign Ministry on Monday, Safadi and Lazzarini highlighted the outcomes of the international ministerial conference organized last month by Jordan and Sweden and pledged to provide $130 million in financial support, and future steps to build on these outcomes and ensure the sustainability of the necessary financial support to the UNRWA.

Sustainable means of support to the UNRWA must go on to be able to carry out its tasks in accordance with its UN mandate until a just solution to the refugee issue is reached according with international legitimacy resolutions and a comprehensive solution to the conflict based on a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital occupied Jerusalem on the pre-June 1967 borders, Safadi emphasized.

Safadi also reiterated Jordan's support to the UNRWA with direct guidance from His Majesty King Abdullah.
