Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A total of 18 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Monday, including two local cases and 16 imported infections.

The two local cases were discovered in random testing campaigns in Ain al-Basha, north of Amman and in Ramtha, the Ministry of Health announced, adding that investigations are underway to pinpoint the source of infection.

Breaking down the imported infections, the ministry said they include three truck drivers (two Jordanians and an Arab national) which were diagnosed on the Kingdom’s borders with Saudi Arabia and Syria.

Also, 13 cases were discovered among Jordanians, who have recently been repatriated home, and placed under quarantine (5 from Saudi Arabia, 2 from Iraq, 2 from Kuwait, 1 from the UAE, 1 from Qatar, 1 from Pakistan, and 1 from the USA).

With that, the caseload reaches 979 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom in early March, the ministry said in its daily brief to the media.

On a more positive note, 10 patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals on Monday.

As for testing, 8,193 tests were conducted today bringing the total up to 283,673 so far.

With regard to infections recorded among arrivals quarantined in Dead Sea hotels, the ministry said they are being treated in the area in a makeshift hospital providing the necessary medical care.

It noted that the number of those patients stands at 20, explaining that the move has been taken as a result of the growing number of infections among the arrivals.
