Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Government has decided to ease the current COVID-19-prompted lockdown in three southern governorates (Karak, Tafileh, Maan) where no cases have been recorded since the outbreak of the disease in the Kingdom in March.
State Minister for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh told reporters Sunday evening that the decision will take effect as of Tuesday morning and that each of these governorates, in addition to Aqaba which saw a similar decision effective as of today, will be isolated from the other.
He added that citizens will be allowed to move out between 10:00 to 18:00, indicating that the decision will be put to a three-day assessment in terms of adherence to current regulations and safety measures.
The minister said there will be no tolerance to any violations of safety measures, warning that the curfew will be re-imposed in these governorate should citizens fail to abide by the instructions in place.
Adaileh warned of public gatherings, including wedding ceremonies and after-funeral receptions in the four governorates.
Speaking on another issue, the minister said the cabinet held a session discussing the Kingdom’s staples stockpile and the reopening of some economic sectors.
Adaileh said the cabinet was briefed by the Minister of Finance on the state’s fiscal status, assuring that the Kingdom’s financial standing is "assuring" and that the Government is capable of meeting all of its commitments to creditors.
With regard to the shutdown of print media, Adaileh said the Kingdom’s dailies’ financial hardship is deep-seated and precedes the current COVID-19 crisis. However, the minister added, efforts are underway and coordination is ongoing with all stakeholders to find solutions to this crisis.
