Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Four new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Jordan on Sunday, pushing the total caseload to 417, including 134 active cases still receiving treatment at hospitals in the capital Amman and the northern governorate of Irbid.
Minister of Health Saad Jabir told a daily press briefing that the new four cases include the wife and the son of an infected man and two siblings who contracted the disease from their infected brother who came from Sweden.
The minister further said that 7 patients have recovered and left hospitals, bringing the recovery tally to 276. Following the government's announcement that it will allow the reopening of some economic sectors as of Tuesday, Jabir called for full adherence to health safety and precautionary measures.
The minister indicated that the health system's COVID-19 testing capacity has surged to 2,500 tests a day and will increase tenfold in the future. Furthermore, according to Jabir, there are now around 150 epidemiological investigation teams scouring the Kingdom's various regions.
When the pandemic broke out, Jabir said, the Kingdom was not producing any face masks but today, more than 150,000 masks are produced locally every day and set to rise to around 1 million after ten days.
"We are stronger today, our hospitals are better and not overwhelmed. Our health system is strong and resilient and capable of handling the cases", the minister concluded.
