12-03-2020 04:44 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Thursday chaired a meeting held by the economic team to discuss the expected impact of the novel coronavirus on the Jordanian economy and the economic sectors.

The economic team discussed policies and measures to protect and support the economic sectors expected to be affected as a result of the disease.

In a press statement after the meeting, the Premier said that the government is diligently working on issues related to the disease and infection and prevention, pointing to a team that updates citizens with information regularly.

Razzaz pointed out that the meeting of the economic team, which included all the relevant ministries and the Central Bank of Jordan, came in the context of focusing on the economic ramifications of the disease on Jordan and the world.

He said the team began developing an integrated vision for domestic procedures, pointing out that some sectors such as the tourism sector would be directly affected, which requires joint action to overcome this phase.

He stressed the need to set an integrated plan for various sectors that would be affected, simultaneously addressing issues related to foreign and domestic trade.

"We must make sure that there is a sufficient stock of food, commodities and energy," he stated.

Razzaz announced that the government will release more details on these issues within the next few days, offering reassurance on the standing situation.

He underlined the need to follow-up on all matters so that the economic team works on the economic aspect, while the health and services team monitors the disease and prevents its transmission in the Kingdom.

The Prime Minister also commended the participation of the private sector and civil society institutions through initiatives that join together the Jordanian people.
