Safadi, WFP executive director discuss cooperation

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Thursday discussed with the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), David Paisley, ways to enhance the continuous cooperation between the Kingdom and the WFP.
During the meeting, Safadi appreciated the "effective" cooperation between the Kingdom and the UN program in many areas, especially in regard to meeting the needs of Syrian refugees and support host communities.
Safadi stressed the importance of cooperation in creating appropriate humanitarian and living conditions in Syria to encourage the voluntary return of refugees to their homeland, through programs and projects to bolster stability, in cooperation between the United Nations and all Syrian parties, especially in southern Syria.
Paisley, for his part, lauded the Kingdom's "great" role in hosting Syrian refugees and providing requirements of a decent living for them.
Safadi and Paisley agreed to continue work to increase cooperation and coordinate efforts in tackling the refugee file.
The WFP is carrying out several programs in the Kingdom aimed at supporting refugees, and their host communities, as part of the Kingdom's response plan to the Syrian crisis.
The WFP is implementing its programs within the framework of the its partnership with the Kingdom, based on its strategic plan for 2020-2022 in Jordan, which was adopted in November 2019, and allocates $700 million for the three years, in support of Jordan's efforts to shoulder burdens of the Syrian refugee, empower host communities, and enhance the Kingdom's response to crises and capacity-building, in addition to empowering women, youth and people with special needs.
The WFP has been operating in the Kingdom since 1964, three years after its establishment.
