17-02-2020 03:29 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and his Dutch counterpart, Stef Blok, discussed the outcomes of programs and steps taken by the two kingdoms to enhance cooperation at the bilateral level and at efforts to solve regional crises and expand the Jordanian-European partnership.

During talks in Amsterdam on Sunday, the two ministers affirmed that work will continue to further boost cooperation in economic, investment, tourism and defense fields.

Safadi and Blok underlined the importance of the cooperation that was institutionalized by Jordan and the Netherlands in combating terrorism, especially in the framework of the Aqaba meetings, launched by His Majesty King Abdullah as a platform to coordinate a holistic approach to fight terrorism, a round of which was hosted by the Netherlands in 2018.

Safadi lauded the Netherlands' support to Jordan's development march and its efforts to address the Syrian refugee crisis, while Blok commended Jordan's pivotal role in working for security and stability in the region.

He also expressed his country's appreciation of the humanitarian model set by Jordan in dealing with the refugee crisis.

The two ministers reviewed regional developments, including those related to the Palestinian issue, efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis and the situation in the Gulf region.

In another meeting, Safadi and Dutch National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism, Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg, discussed cooperation in combating terrorism.

Safadi and Aalbersberg emphasized the need to coordinate efforts to address terrorism, which represents a common challenge.

In a discussion panel, organized by the Clingendael Institute, the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, and attended by diplomats, academics and researchers in the Netherlands, the foreign minister highlighted the Kingdom's positions on regional issues and efforts that His Majesty is leading to achieve security and stability in the region.

He also tackled challenges facing the Kingdom due to regional crises as well as economic reforms it's pursued.

On Tuesday, the foreign minister will meet the Dutch Minister of Defense and Minister for the General Intelligence and Security Service, Ank Bijleveld, in addition to the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
