13-02-2020 04:07 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Senate President, Faisal Fayez, lauded the positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II to uphold Jordan's principles concerning any settlement to end the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Fayez' remarks came as he presided over a joint meeting held by the Arab and International Affairs and Expatriates and Palestine Committees at the Senate, attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi.

Fayez praised Jordan's diplomacy, led by His Majesty, which reflects the Kingdom's positions on various Arab, regional and international issues, especially the Palestinian cause, in addition to the King's efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.

Jordan's stances, Fayez said, are "consistent and unchanging," as it seeks comprehensive and just peace that restores rights of the Palestinian people and brings an end to regional conflicts.

He also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to push Israel return to the negotiating table and start "real" peace talks, based on international legitimacy resolutions.

In turn, Safadi reiterated the Kingdom's stances towards the Palestinian cause, as a top issue.

Jordan's stances, he said, are "clear and consistent", and the Kingdom deals with any proposal to resolve the Palestinian cause according to its unchanging principles and its supreme national interests.

A just peace, accepted by people, is a Jordanian-Arab strategic option, and the way to meet all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people on the basis of a two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, which guarantee the establishment of a viable independent Palestinian state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the 4th June 4, 1967 borders.

Safadi also stressed the role of the Hashemite guardianship over Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem in preserving the historical and legal status quo there, and protecting its Arab Islamic and Christian identity.
