Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said on Monday that Jordan and France maintain "distinguished" relations on all levels, noting their common perspective on achieving peace and stability in the Middle East.

He referred to existing cooperation with France, especially in the economic, commercial and investment fields, pointing out that French investments topped foreign investments in the Kingdom.

The Prime Minister made the remarks as he welcomed a French delegation, led by head of the Senate French-Jordanian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Cyril Pellevat, at a meeting attended by Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sami Al-Dawood, Planning and International Cooperation Minister Wissam Rabadi and head of the Senate's Jordanian-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee Haifa Najjar.

Razzaz told the team that Jordan is about to carry out mega projects in a partnership between the public and private sectors in the water, energy, transport and railways sector, adding that the Kingdom would welcome French companies to invest in these projects, especially after the French Development Agency executed quality projects in the country.

The premier also briefed the delegation on the developments in the region and efforts made to resolve regional crises and achieve security, stability and peace, stressing that Jordan had sought political solutions to regional crises.

He reiterated Jordan’s firm stance on resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He warned that unilateral Israeli actions related to Jerusalem and settlements will close the door to a just and lasting peace.

Razzaz also said that Jordan had received refugees from many countries, reaffirming that based on moral and humanitarian grounds, the Kingdom will not force any refugee to return to their country without the proper conditions being in place for their return.

For his part, the head of the French-Jordanian Friendship Committee stressed the ongoing cooperation between France and Jordan, adding,"we are proud of our presence in this country that believes in the principles of democracy and human rights."

He said that he met over the last two days with ministers and officials and also visited the Sports City site of the bus rapid transit project, which is funded by the French Development Agency.

"We are happy with this cooperation between the agency and the Jordanian government," he said, adding that he will tomorrow visit the Zaatari refugee camp, which he said is a testimony to Jordan's good management of the refugees issue and hosting them.
