Jordanian experts, analysts say Trump's Mideast peace deal "doomed to fail"

29-01-2020 05:52 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordanian experts, analysts and officials on Wednesday said the Middle East peace plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump is "doomed to fail" as it lacks justice without fulfilling the rights of the Palestinians.

Voicing rejection of the plan, also known as the "Deal of the Century," they said that such a plan kills any hope for creating an independent and viable Palestinian state.

They condemned the plan as it gives the green light to annex more lands illegally for Israel while urging a unified Arab stance against the deal.

"The deal is meant to help Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu win the upcoming elections ... It does not bring about the desired peace. It neglects the basic rights of the Palestinians," Raed Al Omari, Jordanian political analyst, told Xinhua.

"This deal only opens the door for Israel to occupy more lands which does not refer to final status issues such as water, security and refugees," he added.

"There should be a unified stance to condemn the deal by all Arabs and Muslims and it will fail like any other deals that were not just and comprehensive," Omari said.

Saab Al Rwashdeh, political editor at the Jordan Press Foundation, echoed similar remarks.

"Jordan rejects any plans that do not lead to the creation of an independent Palestinian state. Jordan has been at the forefront in defending the Palestinian issue and pushing for the two-state solution," he said.

Jordan's Senate President Faisal Fayez stressed that the Upper Chamber supports Jordanian king's efforts to realize just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Fayez added that any peace initiative must guarantee the unaltered rights of the Palestinian people to establish a viable, contiguous and independent state on their national soil, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The Lower House's Foreign Committee said that the U.S. biased stances towards Israel "will definitely affect the peace process in the region and the world."

The foreign committee required the international community to pressure the U.S. administration to reconsider these decisions that will increase tensions and violence in the region, according to a statement carried by Petra.

Jordan's Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh said that any solution that undermines the rights of the Palestinian people is not viable and will only contribute to perpetuating turmoil and tension in the region.
