Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A slight in temperatures is expected on Wednesday, bringing cold and partly cloudy weather conditions with a chance for light showers in various parts of the country, mainly the northern and central regions, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily report.

Much colder weather conditions will prevail later at night, with low-altitude clouds and fog formation over the mountainous areas, the JMD expected.

Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman will reach 12 degrees Celsius, 9 in the northern cities, dropping down at night to 4 degrees. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 18 degrees and lows standing at 9 at night, the JMD noted.

The Kingdom on Thursday will enter the last 50 days of winter, locally referred to as "khamsiniyeh", during which cold conditions will continue in most regions, except for the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, where the weather is expected to be fair, with low clouds and northwesterly moderate winds, the department noted.

Cold and partly cloudy conditions will continue on Friday, with scattered rain and westerly to brisk winds that may be blowing dust in the Badia regions, the JMD said.

"This year’s marbaniyeh, the forty coldest days of the year which ends today, has brought higher amounts of rain than its general average in most regions, ranging between 4 and 176 percent," JMD Director General Hussein Al-Momani said.

"The highest cumulative amount of the Kingdom's rainfall this winter was registered in Ras Munif monitoring station in Ajloun governorate, with about 428.9 mm," he added.

Rains of the khamsiniyeh are expected to form 38 percent of the overall rain season, Momani further added.
