Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Monday held a press conference with German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heiko Maas, to discuss regional issues.
Safadi described German support as "systematic and based on a clear and stable policy," adding that it is reliable, especially because Germany is the second largest economic supporter of Jordan.
The minister reaffirmed that safeguarding Iraq and its people and supporting its security and stability is a priority for Jordan, noting that Iraq's safety is also vital for regional security.
He stressed the need for dialogue and de-escalation in the region, which is witnessing major challenges. Any escalation, he warned, will have serious repercussions on the Middle East, Europe and the whole world.
On combating terrorism, Safadi pointed to cooperation with Germany to overcome regional crises and achieve security, adding that the war on the Daesh terrorist group, which poses a serious security and ideological threat, is ongoing.
He also lauded Germany's support for the two-state solution of the Palestinian issue.
On the Libyan issue, Safadi said it is necessary to support stability and reach a "Libyan solution" by the parties of the conflict without foreign interference.
Maas underscored that Jordan is an important regional mediator for stability, calling for supporting the Kingdom's security and stability.
He pointed out that Germany will continue to support Jordan, which hosts a large number of refugees.
The German foreign minister said his country is following up on developments in Iran, and that Iranians have the right to express their opinion without fear and to deal with violence as well as the right to transparency. He called on Iran to stop interference in other countries' internal affairs, especially in Iraq.
He pointed out that Germany had shown Iraq the importance of international efforts to combat terrorism, pointing out that withdrawal from Iraq would turn it into a fertile ground for terrorism.
Maas stated that Germany launched the "Berlin operation" to stop armaments in Libya and reach a truce between the parties of the conflict, so that Libya does not become a magnet for terrorism due to insecurity.
