Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Mohammad Issis, said Jordan's recent "strong" reforms have pushed it to be among the top three countries in the world to improve the business climate.
Issis continued: " Jordan has witnessed an unprecedented leap in the World Bank Group's report, Doing Business 2020, as it ranked 75th moving from the 104th placing, becoming among the top three countries in the world in implementing reforms globally thanks to a series of reforms," adding this is the highest ranking Jordan has ever received in ten years.
His remarks were made during a press conference on Thursday to announce the outcomes of Jordan's performance in Doing Business 2020 report, which coincided with the launch of Doing Business Report 2020 by the World Bank Group.
This achievement, he affirmed, was the result of a "relentless" effort by all the public and private sectors' institutions and the legislative bodies, adding: " it also supports the continuous directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II on the need to overcome investment obstacles, in a bid to attract more domestic and foreign investments and facilitate their establishment."
He underlined the importance of the Doing Business Index, which is an important measure referred to by investors and businesspeople.
Jordan, he noted, has faced unprecedented challenges over the past few years that have affected achieving economic growth rates, and providing a stimulating environment for the private sector to reach its potential.
However, he said :"Jordan has implemented a series of reforms to encourage and simplify procedures, and the results of structural reforms are usually not immediately felt. But Jordan has made an important step in the Doing Business ranking this year, jumping 29 unprecedented points, and we expect further steps in the reform process in the coming years" .
He outlined Jordan's economic and structural reforms and actions that were reflected in the Doing Business 2020 report.
Doing Business 2020 is a key international tool to assess the ease of doing business and measures the level of implementation of reforms related to the business environment.
