JSMO to develop standards of hybrid batteries in 6 months

20-10-2019 06:52 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) said it will provide all technical requirements for the safety of hybrid batteries of both types (nickel and lithium) through developing its standards to be completed within six months.

JSMO Acting Director General, Yousef Shamali, said all industrial products, including batteries, are subject to the Jordanian technical rule No. 119 issued in 2008 concerning the industrial products label, to ensure that all data on the product is correct.

A technical committee will adopt best international standards and follow the fast track procedure to provide these specifications as soon as possible and put them into effect, Shamali added.

Shamali explained that each type of battery has its own features and operational conditions that must be taken into account due to different chemical properties of each type.

He noted that any modification on these batteries or alteration of the type of battery may damage the battery, which poses a danger to public safety.

JSMO works to ensure the safety of all products and therefore the safety of citizens, Shamali underlined, stressing the need to raise awareness about the optimal and correct way to use batteries to ensure a correct and safe start of the car, which provides a longer operating life for both the battery and the car.

The number of hybrids in Jordan reached about 90 thousand vehicles, according to the Public Security Department statistics, which is expected to increase by about 3,000 annually, given previous annual statistics of the General Customs Department.
