PM kicks off key service, investment projects in Zarqa

22-09-2019 03:16 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Sunday launched a number of key public service and investment projects in Zarqa, east of Amman, with the aim of upgrading public service offering and stimulate economic activity.

The prime minister launched the first phase of a nationwide housing program targeting low- and middle-income groups. The program will be implemented in Zarqa, Karak, Amman, Tafileh and Mafraq governorates.

The project, which is in line with the government's 2019-2020 priority agenda, is a model for partnership with private investors, especially in construction and housing, with the aim of meeting part of the housing need for low and middle income groups with a focus on young people and newlyweds.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the project, Razzaz said the government is looking forward to launching this important project at the national level, which aims at promoting the concept of solidarity in light of the large number of families that have not been able to secure suitable housing at reasonable cost and premiums.

He pointed out that the program opens investment opportunities for Jordanian investors and employs Jordanian labor, stressing that this "part of our plan to move and stimulate the economy through the real estate and construction sector."

At the city of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz City in Zarqa, the prime minister laid the foundation stone for a number of projects that include, among others, the construction of a 200-bed hospital at a cost of JOD100 million dinars and an integrated Islamic center incorporating a mosque that can accommodate more than 1000 worshipers, in addition to a public park and public playgrounds at an area of 18 dunums and a shopping center at an area of 110,000SQM providing 2800 jobs upon operation.

In a speech during the ceremony held in the presence of representatives of the companies implementing the project, the prime minister said Zarqa was and is still the main wheel of production in the country, whether at the industrial, commercial or service levels.

The prime minister pointed out that "our country faced many difficulties and overcame them and emerged much stronger and that reflected positively on the private sector and investors," noting the importance of these projects, which will provide more than 5,000 jobs in services needed by the people of the region.
