Temperatures to soar 9 degrees above average as heatwave starts

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A hot and dry heat wave originating from the Arab Peninsula is expected to hit the country on Wednesday, pushing temperatures 8-9 degrees Celsius above annual average and creating hot to extremely conditions across many parts of the country.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department(JMD) daily brief, winds will be northeasterly moderate to brisk mainly in the eastern parts of the Kingdom.

Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail on Thursday, but with clouds at high altitudes mainly in the southern and eastern parts of the Kingdom.

Mercury levels are forecast to few degrees on Friday, but similar hot conditions will continue across many parts of the country, with clouds at high altitudes and northwesterly moderate to brisk winds, stirring dust in the desert region, the JMD said.

Daytime temperatures expected for today will reach 38 degrees Celsius in Amman, 36 in the northern cities and 34 in the southern governorates, dropping down to 24 in all regions at nights. The weather will be hotter in the port city of Aqaba with highs jumping to 42 degrees and lows sliding to 30, the JMD added.
