30-04-2019 03:40 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz Tuesday patronized a conference organisd by the 'We Love Reading' (WLR) programme under the motto: Cooperation for a better future, a new approach for sustainable success.

WLR, which launched under the patronage of Taghyeer (change) organization, is an independent nonprofit organisation that aims to foster the love of reading for pleasure among children in Jordan and throughout the world through local volunteers' activities to raise reading levels for children at an early age up to ten via read aloud sessions.

The Prime Minister thanked the organizers of the programme, which has made key successes and spread to 52 countries, stressing that "it is time to restore the vitality of our civilization and its positive role in the world, and to enhance the values of knowledge, love and tolerance in our region."

Razzaz noted that the importance of the initiative stems from its focus on enhancing the love of reading among children beyond the school curriculum, especially since the first years in a child's age are extremely important to build and refine his/her personality in the future and impact their intellectual, social and economic life.

WLR founder and director, Rana Dajani reviewed the goals that the initiative seeks to achieve in promoting the love of reading for children, and the importance of the family's role in this regard. She stressed that the love of reading among children contributes to behavioral change and enhances their mental and psychological health, adding that the initiative has developed 32 stories that would raise the children's desire to read.

The program trains local men, women, young men and women volunteers and community volunteers who are trained to conduct public reading sessions in local neighborhoods where books are read to children. The initiative chooses attractive books suitable for children's ages, with a neutral and written context in the mother tongue of the child.
