Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Planning and International Cooperation Minister, Mary Kawar, on Wednesday met with a delegation from the French Senate, headed by Olivier Cigolotti, Secretary of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces committee.
During the meeting, Kawar underscored repercussions of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees, which have created new burdens on the budget, especially on subsidized goods and the water, education, health, and energy sectors.
The minister underlined the importance of the international community's support to the Kingdom through direct support to the government to alleviate the difficulties facing the national economy.
Kawar went over the Jordan Response Platform (JRP) to the Syria Crisis 2019, which aims at reducing the impact of hosting Syrian refugees on the Kingdom.
She called for backing short and medium-term projects that would uplift the major sectors that, in turn, would help the Kingdom address the refuge crisis.
For their part, the French delegation lauded the efforts Jordan has exerted in receiving Syrian refugees, and the aid and support it provided to them.
They also acknowledged the challenges and effects of receiving refugees, calling on the international community and donor countries to financially back the Kingdom.
