Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Tuesday met with a delegation from the French Senate, headed by Olivier Cigolotti, Secretary of the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces committee.

During the meeting, Razzaz underscored the "model" friendship and partnership between Jordan and France, and the two countries' ongoing coordination on various regional and international issues.

He lauded France's support of Jordan at the various political and economic levels, pointing out that France has the highest foreign investments in Jordan.

The Premier also commended France's backing for the Middle East peace process, and its aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

He said Jordan believes that the Palestinian issue should be resolved based on the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Such a solution, he said, should take into consideration the rights and interests of all parties involved, especially the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Furthermore, Razzaz stressed that Jordan, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, is working towards becoming a successful democratic country that respects human rights, enforces the law fairly and has a strong economy.

On regional instability, he pointed out that the Kingdom has faced many challenges over the past decades as a result of the Syrian refugee crises, border closures, and fluctuation in oil prices and disruption of supplies.

"Despite these challenges, Jordan is committed to a set of values based on the principles of humanity, dialogue and respect for the other, which contributed to boosting the political and social stability in the Kingdom," he added.

On Syrian refugees, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that the international community will continue to support and assist refugees until they are able return safely to their country.

On the war on terrorism, he stated that the Daesh terror group is almost defeated, stressing the importance of fighting its ideology as well, pointing out that terrorist organizations feed on the crises that are not resolved.

Cigolotti said that his visit aims to listen to Jordan's views on strengthening ties, the regional situation, efforts to achieve peace and fighting terrorism.

He also said Paris is keenly interested to work with the Kingdom to maintain stability in the Middle East, and the need to support Jordan to overcome the challenges it faces.

The French official underscored the importance of continuing efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, noting that they are the main reasons behind the instability of democratic societies in the Middle East and Europe.
