Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Senate President, Faisal Fayez, and Speaker of Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council, Abdullah Sheikh, discussed in Riyadh Monday bilateral relations and means to enhance cooperation, mainly in the political, economic and parliamentary spheres.

They also discussed the current situation in the region, including the Palestinian cause, the Syrian crisis and other Arab and Islamic issues.

Fayez said that Jordan is satisfied with the "high level, deep and historic relations", which His Majesty King Abdullah and Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz are keen to further develop based on mutual respect and solid foundations that uphold the concept of joint security and common destiny.

He said that the Jordanian leadership and people consider the safety of Saudi Arabia and the other Arab Gulf states as an integral part of their country's security, and reject any attempts to meddle in their internal affairs.

Fayez called for building on the relationships between the two countries, especially under the current circumstances in the Arab world which necessitate pooling efforts to address the dangers and challenges in the region.

Jordan, he said, has become strong at the security and political levels in spite of the conflicts in the region due to its wise leadership, strong security and military institutions and its people's awareness and loyalty.

On the Palestinian issue, he said that Jordan will not accept any unilateral solutions that would change the historical status quo in Jerusalem, and will reject solutions affecting the Kingdom and its national fundamentals, stressing that the Kingdom will maintain its historical and religious duty to safeguard the Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

For his part, the Saudi Shura Council Speaker said that Jordanian-Saudi relations are historically deep and that the two countries share the desire to enhance them.
