Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan on Monday said the Golan Heights will remain a Syrian territory occupied by Israel as affirmed by relevant international legitimacy resolutions and urged all members of the international community to abide by such resolutions.
In a statement following the United States' unilateral move to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said Jordan's position is firm and clear in rejecting Israel's annexation of the Syrian territory and any unilateral decision that would fuel tension in the region.
The stressed said that any unilateral decision wouldn't change the fact that the Golan Heights are an Israel-occupied Syrian territory, adding that lasting and comprehensive peace requires ending the Israeli occupation of the Syrian territory.
The position of the international community on the Golan Heights is evident in the UN Security Council Resolution No. 497 (1981), which rejected Israel's decision to annex the occupied Golan Heights and affirmed the illegality of Israel's imposition of its laws and administration on the occupied Syrian territory.
