20-02-2019 04:44 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The State Security Court (SSC) on Wednesday handed down prison terms ranging from 2 to 15 years against 10 defendants after they were found guilty of plotting terrorist acts at home and establishing links with terrorist organizations.

Two of those convicted today plotted to kidnap a General Intelligence Department (GID) officer, kill him and record the operation in support of the terrorist Daesh group. They also hatched a plot to kidnap an SSC judge and kill him in addition to attacking the GID's office in Al-Russaifah, east of Amman. Both received a 15-year prison term.

In another case, a defendant received a 10-year sentence after he pledged allegiance to terror-master Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi and vowed to target tourism police in a downtown Amman area. The defendant plotted the operation after he established links with a member of terror group, Daesh.

Another defendant, who fought alongside the terrorist Nusra group in Syria, received a 7-year prison term after he abandoned the group and came back to Jordan. One of those convicted today, who received a 5-year prison term, contacted a Daesh member to help him join the terrorist group.

Furthermore, the SSC handed down another 5-year prison term against a defendant who contacted his brothers in law, who were fighting alongside Daesh in Syria, received recordings of operations perpetrated by the terrorist group and republished them online.

The court also sentenced, in absentia, three defendants to 15-year prison term each.
