Economic team discusses propping up pharmaceutical industry

15-12-2018 02:53 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The ministerial economic team, chaired by Prime Minister Omar Razzaz, on Saturday held a meeting with the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers to discuss enhancing the sector's contribution to the national economy and achieving pharmaceutical security.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining the competitive advantages of the pharmaceutical industry and its reputation locally and internationally as the Kingdom's second largest exporter.

He also emphasised the importance that the government attached to the Jordanian pharmaceutical industry as one of the country's most important growth sectors that support the economy and exports and employs Jordanians.

Razzaz said the government is ready to take measures and amend legislation to prop up the sector, enhance its competitiveness and bring down the barriers facing it.

The economic task force and the association agreed to set up a body to boost productivity and come up with a vision to uplift the pharmaceutical industry.

The prime minister called for launching an incubator to enhance the ability of Jordanian pharmaceutical firms to keep pace with the advancements in the industry and move towards the production of biomedicines, which Jordan still imports from abroad.

President of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Producers Salah Mawajdeh told the economic team that the sector has the resources for success, commending the ministers' interest in achieving pharmaceutical security and expanding exports to world countries.

He noted the legislation governing and stimulating the sector, which, he said, exists nowhere in the Arab world.
