Fully ‘dressed in bees,’ why this Saudi failed his Guinness World Record attempt

12-09-2018 04:25 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A Saudi man named Zuhair Amin Fattani said his love for bees and his ability to deal with the insects drove him to attempt to break a Guinness World Record, covering himself by bees weighing more than 63.7 kilograms - the current registered world record.

Fattani, who is an official in the Mecca beekeepers association, insisted on experimenting that his body be covered with more than 100 kilograms of bees.

In an interview with Al Arabiya English, Fattani said: “I love touching bees, I have 1,500 organic bee hives. I collected a large amount of different kind of bees during my trips in the Tabuk area, which has the right infrastructure and atmosphere to do this experiment.”

He added: “I arranged for an experiment and booked an appointment with Guinness after collecting the bees in one area of Tabuk. During the filming, I fell ill. So we decided to postpone the experiment.”

Fattani explained that before he fell ill and quit, he was able to last for “one hour and 20 minutes to collect bees on my body forming 49 kilograms equivalent to 343,000 bees, during which I was subjected to hundreds of stings without any swelling or complications due to my ability to handle the stings.”

The avid bee lover added that “I will try to attain the world record again when the circumstances are right. I failed due to the high temperature and dues to the bee queen flying off, which made the rest follow it.”
