Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Senate President Faisal Fayez Sunday called on the international community to take its humanitarian and moral responsibility towards the suffering of Syrian people that went on for more than eight years.

"The time has come for the conscience of humanity to wake after the biggest crime against the people of Syria in modern history, which killed hundreds of thousands and left many more displaced or as refugees," al-Fayez said in a statement.

He urged international parliamentary action groups to push governments to take swift and serious steps to end the Syrian crisis that took a heavy toll on innocent civilians, including children and women, without any justification, adding that "this tragedy cannot continue."

Under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan has not wavered to come to the aid of its Arab brethren. It took the lead, but was also the only country that opened its arms to all those fleeing wars with their lives and children and looking for safety and security.

"Since the dawn of history, Jordan had received and provided sanctuary to hundreds of thousands of refugees, and is today taking in hundreds of thousands of Syrians displaced by war, warmly embracing them and opening its schools and hospitals to them and sharing with them food and water," he said.

At a time the international community relinquished its responsibility towards Syrian refugees, he said, Jordanians assumed their duty, raising funds and collecting donations and relief aid to the Syrian "brethren" despite the economic hardship they are living in.
