27-06-2018 08:24 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The United Nations special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, has informed Yemeni president Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi that the Houthis have accepted putting the port city of Hodeidah under a UN surveillance.

Hadi had earlier informed the UN envoy that it is very important that the Houthi militias withdraw from Hodeidah and its port or they would have to face military action.

Meanwhile, the Yemeni legitimate army backed by Arab coalition, continued its operations in the direction of Hodeidah city and its port, while the UN envoy continues his efforts regarding the Yemeni port city.

It is expected that Griffiths would meet later in the day with president Hadi and other local legitimate officials in the city in order to discuss efforts to spare Hodeidah a military confrontation and to resume political negotiations.

The Arab coalition and Yemen legitimate government stressed that the withdrawal of the Houthi militias from Hodeidah city and its port is a condition fror the resumption of political negotiations and to halt all military operations.

But a Yemeni official revealed that Griffiths’ efforts focus on putting the port of Hodeidah under a UN surveillance.
