Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - State Minister for Media Affairs Jumana Ghuneimat said on Tuesday that the government is serious about addressing challenges facing the media sector within a participatory and cooperative approach with the Jordan Press Association (JPA).
She said during a visit to the JPA, where she discussed with the association's president and council members the challenge of revamping the Jordanian media and meet the demands of workers in the sector, that partnership and openness are the key tenets of the government's approach with all sectors, including the media and the press.
Ghuneimat, who is also the government's official spokesperson, said that professionalism and objectivity require meeting the necessary requirements for media institutions and journalists, which will reflect on the level of freedoms and ensure the flow of information.
She said that she regards the JPA as a partner in the vision and planning of the media in Jordan, pointing out that she holds several files aimed at upgrading the national media in case partnership had been achieved with stakeholders, foremost of which is the JPA.
The minister indicated that her plan to upgrade the media entails putting the official media institutions' house in order and to be a national media not a government media, stressing the need to change the stereotypes about the sector.
She stressed that the government is open to amending the right of access to information law according to a clear approach that ensures the flow of information, along with a comprehensive review and study of all the challenges and demands of the media and employees to ensure a high level of press freedom and protect the rights of workers in the sector.
