Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania spent Tuesday afternoon with students of the Royal Academy for the Blind in Amman, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Education.
The King and Queen were briefed by students on the projects they designed and implemented at the STEM Laboratory for teaching the blind science, engineering, technology and mathematics, which is the first of its kind in the region.
The students talked about their experiences in developing their projects, including how electric circuit works and practical implementation on the ground, designing robots, and linking chess to teach mathematics to the blind in an easy and interesting way.
Their Majesties also listened to a presentation by the academy's director, Abdel Munim Al-Duwairi, in which he emphasized the use of the latest technology in education and the creation of a suitable educational environment for the visually impaired among both sexes from all over the Kingdom from first grade to Tawjihi.
He said that the academy includes 34 classrooms and provides rehabilitation services for students, including the visually impaired, training of other senses, training in mobility, movement and daily life skills, as well as providing psychological and health support, counseling and recreational, cultural and social services, including music, sports and drawing.
He added that the current number of students at the academy is 295 students, 20 of whom live in the dormitory, adding that 153 employees work at the academy, including 101 teaching staff, among them 55 teachers with visual disabilities, pointing that the academy is printing the curricula of the Ministry of Education Braille for all students in the Kingdom.
The exhibition was one stop in Their Majesties' tour of the academy's facilities, which includes student paintings supervised by Jordanian artist Suheil Baqaeen, known for his "Smell of Color" initiative of teaching students to distinguish colors through smell.
The students talked about their experiences in participating in art exhibitions and how to use the colors with smell with the help of artist Suhail Baqaeen.
The King and Queen were accompanied by the minister of education and the secretary general of the Royal Hashemite Court, head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of royal initiatives.
The Royal Academy of the Blind was founded in 2011 as a Royal Initiative, the only academy in Jordan that deals with students with visual disabilities from different regions of the Kingdom.
