04-04-2018 03:57 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A Jordanian delegation representing the country's industrial and trade sectors will visit Syria in the middle of April, said an official source on Wednesday.

The visit will be the first by such a delegation since the outbreak of unrest in Syria in 2011.

The Jordanian delegation will hold several meetings with Syrian business delegations and industrialists and representatives from the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Damascus Chamber of Industry and the Syrian Exporters Union, Jordan Chamber of Industry President Adnan Abul Ragheb told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Representatives from various constructions companies and clearance companies will also be among the delegation, he said.

"The relationship with Syria is very important for us and it is a brotherly relations and we hope for the restoration of safety in the neighboring country," he said.

Discussions with the Syrian counterparts will also focus on efforts by Jordan to help in the reconstruction of Syria, he said.

He added that the Jordanian industries and businesspeople are keen on the re-opening of the borders with Syria to boost trade exchange and help increase economic growth.

He added that preparations have been completed for the visit and necessary security approvals were issued.

The visit seeks to bring back to life Jordan's economic relations with Syria.

Jordan closed the Jaber border crossing with Syria in 2015 for security reasons. The Ramtha crossing, the other border crossing with the war-torn country, has been closed for more than five years.
