Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Water and Irrigation Ali Ghzawi expressed Jordan's appreciation for the Japanese support to improve the water and sanitation services in the refugee hosting communities as part of the Japanese government's economic and social support program for Jordan amounting to $16.4 million.
The minister made the remarks during a ceremony to handover a number of machineries, equipment and spare parts valued at $6.4 million to the Central Workshops Directorate in the presence of Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Hidenao Yanagi, Secretary General of the Water Authority Iyad Dohayat and other water officials.
He pointed out that the water sector acquired about 40 percent of the Japanese grant program to improve water services, operation and maintenance by providing modern multi-purpose equipment for all water departments.
The minister said that cooperation between Jordan and Japan in the water sector has been continuous for decades through the implementation of water, sanitation and capacity building projects in the Kingdom.
The Japanese ambassador for his part voiced satisfaction over Jordan's efforts to deal with the Syrian refugee crisis, adding that Japan is ready to provide all forms of support and exchange expertise to enable the water sector in Jordan to deal with various challenges.
