06-02-2018 05:28 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Government of Japan will extend a new $17.5 million aid package for the projects of international organizations in Jordan from its supplementary budget of 2017, according to a press statement by the Japanese Embassy in Amman on Tuesday.

The statement said the aid aims to assist Jordan in facing the regional turmoil and the influx of a large number of refugees into the country.

Under the new assistance package, grants will be provided to UNDP, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNIDO, UNOPS, UNWOMEN, FAO, IOM, WFP, ICRC and Japan Platform (international emergency humanitarian aid organization made up of a consortium of Japanese NGOs).

The grants will be used to implement projects, provide humanitarian assistance to Syrian refugees as well as host communities that have been affected by the influx of refugees, and prevent radicalization and terrorism.

The statement said that Japan, as a member of the international community, will continue to provide support to Jordan as it is a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East.
