Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Lower House First Deputy Speaker, Khamis Attyah, said on Wednesday Jordan is keen to retain the Hashemite custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem and vowed to thwart occupation authorities' plans to tamper with the city's shrines.
Attyah, who heads Jordan's delegation to the 13th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC members (PUIC) deliberations held in the Iranian capital,Tehran, added Jordan's custodian role fosters steadfastness of Jerusalem residents and preserves Al-Aqsa Mosque, and urged Arab nations to back this historic Hashemite effort.
This Tehran event, he pointed out, is held simultaneous with rigorous challenges triggered by the Mideast volatilities, and noted this tumultuous situation stresses the dire need to bolster dialogue, respect of law, and reciprocal points of view.
The Us. administration's decision to relocate Washington's embassy to Jerusalem and to recognize this holy city as the capital of Israel has grave ramifications on the Palestinian cause, the Arab region and the world as well, he warned, and said this move is "a declaration of war on the international law, constitutes the crime of the century, and an infringement of the Palestinian people's rights".
The world's rejection of the U.S. step showcased Washington's isolation and plans to thwart this move need a huge pan-Arab effort at international arenas, he pointed out.
