Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Planning and International Cooperation Minister, Imad Fakhoury, on Sunday signed a grant agreement worth 20 million euros from the EU.
As a part of the gov't response plan to the Syrian refugee crisis, the agreement provides sectoral support through the national budget to the Ministry of Education to help the vital educational sector handle relevant refugee ramifications.
In a press statement after the signing ceremony, Fakhoury said this grant accord is an additional step to foster Jordan-EU cooperation and showcases EU's commitment to fulfill its financial obligations to tackle repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis, as announced at the London donor conference on Syria.
This agreement, he said, also aims to help the Kingdom, as a refugee-hosting nation, to press ahead with offering high-quality services to Syrians here.
EU Ambassador to Jordan, Andrea Matteo Fontana, who signed the agreement with Fakhoury, lauded the Kingdom's key role in tackling the Syrian refugee plight and said "support has to geared towards the development sectors, in a bid to serve communities of the hosting countries as well".
The EU diplomat also highlighted Jordan's pivotal role to host refugees, and stressed the dire need to beef up efforts to back the Kingdom to counter diverse refugee repercussions.
" The EU views its support as a move that helps bolster security and stability in the entire Middle East, " Fontana pointed out.
