Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - On Sunday, December 3, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation H.E. ImadFakhouryand United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Jim Barnhart, currently serving as the U.S. Embassy Acting Deputy Chief of Mission,signed an agreement to transfer $475 million to the Government of Jordan. The $475 million is part of $812,350,000 appropriated by the U.S. Congress to Jordan in the U.S. Fiscal Year 2017 budget.
USAID and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan maintain a long-standing partnership to support economic stability, strengthen democratic governance, and improve essential service delivery to meet the needs of the people of Jordan. Together, the United States and Jordan provided more than two million people access to fresh water and sanitation services. Bilateral trade has increased by 800 percent following Jordan’s accession to the World Trade Organization and the implementation the U.S.-Jordan Free Trade Agreement. And health care services improved for thousands of people through the renovation and modernization of more than 400 clinics and hospitals throughout Jordan and one million students benefitted from an improved learning environment made possible through improved infrastructure and teacher training.
The U.S. economic assistance program to Jordan is the largest in the world. The United States government, through USAID, has provided foreign assistance from the American people to Jordan for more than 60 years.
