Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government economic team was briefed on Monday about the financial challenges facing Royal Jordanian (RJ) during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hani Mulki.
RJ Chairman, Said Darwazeh, and President/CEO, Stefan Pichler, updated the economic task force about schemes the national carrier had embarked on to overcome financial problems it is facing.
Darwazeh said RJ's five-year plan would guarantee the management of the airline according to world-class criteria and enhance its status and competitiveness, The company, he added, had taken measures with a focus on good management of routes and stations, in addition to spending cuts and raising revenues.
Pichler told the ministers that the RJ plan had helped to make remarkable progress in meeting the set goals to bypass the challenges facing the airline.
Mulki said the government was expecting thorough and ambitious RJ plans in the coming period to put the company on the road to profit to overcome the challenges and achieve its development programmes.
He pledged that the government will support companies as long as they undertake the correct steps to address challenges and turn them into opportunities and profit, adding that RJ should act within a competitive business model and as a company looking for competition.
The prime minister said RJ should revisit unprofitable routes and boost competitive destinations.
