Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - South Amman police have arrested a group of rioters who assaulted players of the Al Wahdat football team after their under-15 match with Al Faisali team on Friday evening.
The Public Security Department said in a statement that nine players and coach members of the Al Wahdat Club arrived in hospital after being assaulted inside their bus by unknown people following the match, which was held at Ghamadan Park. It said six of the injured were discharged and three were admitted.
It said that the prime suspect was arrested and was being investigated to determine the identities of his accomplices in order to arrest them and refer them to judicial authorities.
The Jordan Football Association (JFA) issued a statement strongly condemning the "unacceptable" violence and ensuing injuries. It said that the association held an emergency meeting upon a directive by JFA president, HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, "who deems all players of all age groups as his sons, and that any assault on them affects him personally, as well as the entire Jordanian footballing family".
The association demanded that security authorities identify the perpetrators and take legal action against them, vowing to stand firmly against those attempting to stir up riots and calling for providing security to all matches of the tournaments organised by the federation.
