Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi Tuesday discussed on the telephone with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al Malki efforts to jumpstart Middle East peace talks to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict according to the two-state solution.
The ministers pledged to work closely in support of efforts underway to launch serious and effective negotiations leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on pre-June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, as the only avenue to solve the conflict.
Malki briefed Safadi about latest attempts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation after a national reconciliation government took over in the Gaza Strip and held its first meeting, and the outcome of an encounter with the Hamas leadership there.
Safadi reiterated Jordan's support of the legitimate government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and its support of efforts to bring about reconciliation and enable the reconciliation government to fully exercise its responsibility.
He said Jordan valued Egypt's role as sponsor of the reconciliation effort.
The two ministers agreed to pursue coordination and communication in line with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah and President Abbas "in a manner to serve the common interests of the two peoples".
