Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi Friday participated in the annual coordination meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which was held on Friday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The ministers discussed issues on the OIC agenda, including developments in the Middle East, anti-terrorism efforts and organisational matters related to the pan-Islamic organisation.
In remarks at the meeting, Safadi reiterated Jordan's stand against unilateral measures Israel is trying to impose at the Al Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif and the Kingdom's role to protect the holy shrines in occupied East Jerusalem as part of the historic Hashemite custodianship over the sacred Christian and Muslim holy places.
The foreign minister asserted that the Palestinian issue is the crux of the conflict in the Middle East and added that there will be no security and stability in the region without finding a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution that guarantees the setting up of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the June, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and living in peace alongside Israel.
In an annual meeting on funding the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Safadi stressed the need for increased international support of the agency to continue its vital services to Palestinian refugees until their issue is resolved according to the international legitimacy resolutions.
In the meeting, which was held at UN headquarters under the co-sponsorship of Jordan and Sweden and the chairmanship of the OIC Secretary General, Safadi spoke of the importance of addressing UNRWA's budget deficit, calling for securing the necessary sustainable funding for the refugee agency.
The minister also took part in a ministerial meeting of the International Anti-Daesh Coalition, which was hosted by the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in New York, where Safadi reiterated Jordan's full commitment to closely working within the coalition and in cooperation with the global community to fight and eliminate terrorism, which poses a challenge to the entire world.
