Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Japan's foreign ministry spokesman Toshihide Ando stressed his country's support to Jordan in various fields.
During a meeting with journalists in Amman on Sunday, he said the visit of the Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono to Jordan comes within the distinguished bilateral ties as well as cooperation and coordination at all levels, adding that the Japanese minister held important talks in Amman today on bilateral ties as well as Japan's support to Jordan and the region's issues.
Japan, he added, had decided to offer a $3.5 million grant to Jordan to provide medical aid and other services to Syrian refugees in the Kingdom. He also praised Jordan's role in hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with various services.
He said that the Japanese aid to Jordan since the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011 has stood at nearly $1 billion.
The minister announced a $9 million-grant to Jordan within the official Japanese aid for development, adding that the Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Shuichi Sakurai signed a memorandum in this regard today with Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury.
The grant will be used for the purchase of security equipment for non-military purposes that would contribute to enhancing security in the Kingdom.
