Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Criminal Investigation Department's (CID) personnel have arrested a suspect for the robbery of a jewellery shop in the capital's Bayader neighbourhood, retrieving 26 kilogrammes of gold and JD15,000 stolen from the premises, the Public Security Department (PSD) said on Saturday.

On May 26, CID personnel in Amman received a report that a jewellers had been robbed by unidentified persons, who entered the shop through a rear connected to an abandoned shop, a PSD statement said.

CID and criminal laboratory staff were subsequently dispatched to the crime scene and an investigation was initiated, which eventually led to the identification of the main suspect.

CID staff monitored the suspect before arresting him, the PSD said, adding that he was taken to his home in order to carry out a search.

Searching the residence, security personnel found eight guns, a large amount of live ammunition and tools often used in criminal theft cases for breaking into shops. All the items were seized and the authorities started an investigation.

He admitted committing the theft and renting an office in Hay Al Nazzal for storing the stolen property, the PSD said, adding that CID agents accompanied the suspect to the rented office, where the gold and money were recovered.

Analysing the techniques of the Bayader theft, investigators managed to match the techniques with two previous cases perpetrated in Zarqa's Ruseiffa District, 22km east of Amman.

The suspect confessed to committing the two crimes in 2014 and 2016, which included the theft of four kilogrammes of gold in 2014 and 14 kilogrammes of gold and jewellery in 2016.

He admitted to committing the crimes alone. An investigation is ongoing before the suspect is transferred to court.
