King honors Jordanian chemist

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Tuesday, received Jordanian scientist, Prof. Omar Yaghi, a professor of chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), who was ranked second in the list of the world's best known chemists.
During the meeting, His Majesty voiced his pride in Jordanians' achievements abroad, pointing out that Jordan always welcomes the return of its scientists and talented people to use their knowledge and creativity to serve their homeland.
King Abdullah bestowed upon Professor Yaghi the King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Medal of Excellence of the first order, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in the field of scientific research, education and chemistry.
Professor Yaghi said he is launching a science and technology initiative, under the name of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in order to motivate young Jordanians to innovate and excel in these fields.
He also outlined the organic metals laboratory project to be implemented by UC Berkeley at the Royal Scientific Society as a research facility to stimulate creativity for young people and researchers in Jordan and the region in the fields of chemistry, physics and engineering.
Professor Yaghi, who was named the second best chemical scientist in the world in 2011, was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2015.
